Introduction
The Advisory Committee Meeting of the Solid Waste Exchange of Information and Expertise Network in Maghreb and Mashreq Countries (SWEEP-Net), was held from June 21 to 22, 2010, at Karthago Palace Hotel Gammarth, Tunis.
The Meeting has been officially opened by H.E Mr Nadhir Hamada, the Tunisian Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development. The network supporting partners: the German Technical Assistance Agency (GTZ) and the Tunisian National Waste Management Agency (ANGed), SWEEP-Net national coordinators and consultants, and the regional consultant, along with qualified experts from the region and representatives from private sector, NGOs, donors and other regional networks and associations participated in the meeting.
Objective of the Meeting
The objective of the meeting was to discuss the current priorities in the field of solid waste management and investigate the opportunities of cooperation and networking in this field at the national and regional levels in the framework of the SWEEP-Net Network.

Session 1: Opening ceremony
The workshop was opened by the Secretary General of SWEEP-Net, Mr. Anis Ismail, who indicated his appreciation for the participation of H.E. the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development in Tunis, the Head of GTZ office in Tunis, the different stakeholders in the field of SWM, the media, and international organizations. He shortly introduced the initiative of establishing SWEEP-Net, its objectives and activities and the expected outcomes
Ms. Sandra Schenke, the Head of GTZ office in Tunisia provided a speech on GTZ activities in Tunis and the region. She pointed out to the roll of GTZ in SWEEP-Net and wished the participants a successful meeting.
H.E. Mr, Nadhir Hamada, the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development in Tunis expressed his pleasure to participate in this important event that brought together experts with a wide range of experience on local, regional and international levels, to share their knowledge and expertise in handling such an important issue as SWM. H.E. Mr, Hamada pointed out that SWM became one of the most important issues for various governments. Mr, Hamada also presented the activities of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development in the SWM sector.
