Assistance for the development of a PCGD in Tunisia

Assistance for the development of a PCGD in Tunisia
Monday, February 2, 2015

The Communal Management Waste Plan (PCGD) is a tool that aims to improve local governance and municipal planning to improve the quality of services in waste management. This action aims to optimize the collection and transportation of waste and also improve cost recovery, promote savings opportunities and green jobs.

This initiative is simultaneously combining three neighboring communities (La Marsa, Carthage, Sidi Bou Said) in the spirit of cross-border inter-municipality cooperation and implemented with the support of three GIZ projects  (SWEEP-Net, PPE and HCD).

This initiative is innovative in several ways: i) Indeed, this is the first time that the municipalities fund themselves their PCGD with a total budget of 65 thousand dinars; ii) This action will also help to implement the cross-border inter-municipality which was recommended for a long time, but never initiated before; and iii) This action will enhance human skills and capacity building.

Implemented activities:

  • Signature of the memorandum of cooperation (see link);
  • Implementation workshop in La Marsa (Nov 2, 2013)

GIZ / SWEEP-Net : PCGD Diagnosis Phase in the municipalities of Carthage and La Marsa, December 12, 2013

Upcoming activities:

  • Discuss the summary reports;
  • Identify the strategic directions;
